Students experience change from quarter to quarter in school but the last thing people expected to change was their chocolate. Kids are very fond of peers having a box of chocolate with an array of choices that are as simple as milk chocolate or as light as wafer, but recently it seems that candy bar sellers have been having a harder time than usual with selling their chocolate.
If you haven’t already noticed, the World’s Finest Chocolate has increased chocolate bar prices from one dollar to two dollars along with decreasing the amount of chocolate given in a single box. Students that sold chocolate bars before the change know that originally they were given a quantity of 60 bars of chocolate. This seems like a lot but in the past it was fairly easy to sell the chocolate since it was marketed at such a cheap price. Now participating students are given only 40 bars of chocolate, but the two dollar price seems to be discouraging possible buyers from wanting the candy.
If this decision was given to students in the community without a doubt they would not initially want to increase prices, but sadly World’s Finest Chocolate completely discontinued their 60 bar boxes. The only boxes that are officially listed on their website is the two and five dollar box of chocolates. On top of this they have also replaced their original dark chocolate flavor for pretzel flavor. The pretzel flavor has had mixed reviews, but in summary it is basically the original dark chocolate bar with little nubs of pretzel sprinkled throughout it. However the real question is, why would World’s Finest Chocolate increase their price of chocolate after at least 35 years while barely increasing the size of the chocolate bar?
During 2024 a lack of rainfall and disease affected the cocoa trees in West African countries like Ghana and Ivory Coast. This poor weather along with diseases has caused a cocoa shortage. In addition to all of this, tariffs put in place by our government caused businesses to pay an extra 15% for cocoa shipments.
