December 5th the 2nd installment of Five Night of Freddy’s struck theaters. There were a lot of bad reviews for this movie for a surprisingly good fan review and box office success for the budget. 15% (Critics) / 87% (Audience) score on rotten tomatoes. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (2025) was a significant box office success, grossing over $231 million worldwide on a modest budget. So there was a lot of divide in the movie’s success. I’ll give my personal review on the movie and what the general media and fans thought of the movie.
My review on the FNAF 2 movie
The movie was in my opinion far superior to its predecessor. This was more action packed and more deaths overall. This movie featured the 2nd game’s animatronics and had the same main characters. As Mike Schmitt, Vennase Shelly, and Abby. Mike and Abby trying to move past the trauma, but Abby’s connection to the animatronics draws her back, uncovering deeper secrets and unleashing a new wave of horror at a new, shiny Freddy’s location, featuring the iconic “Toy” animatronics and the Marionette, as the lore expands with William Afton’s past influencing the present events and a town-wide “Fazfest” celebration. It was a lot of buildup but the final 30 minute action scene was jam packed with action. The Mangel animatronic getting on top of Vanessa’s car. The toy animatronic chasing Mike and Abby. The marionette taking over peoples souls including Abby. And the final scene where the withered animatronic destroyed the toy animatronics protecting Abby. This movie was a fun watch and it was cool to see one of my favorite childhood games and youtube videos on the big screen.
However this movie isn’t very accurate to the games and theories. And a big part of this whole franchise is the lore. I can understand the movie is trying to make their separate timeline and not regurgitate old information. However the lore isn’t that simple, it’s a big convoluted mystery and was a big part of the franchise. And you have to be a real fan to know it all and it got me into playing the games as well. For example the player we play as in the 2nd game is Mike Afton the son of the villain of this series Willam Afton. However Mike Afton is a good guy and is trying to stop his dad in the lore. But in the movie he plays this creepy villain who is unrelated to Mike, who is the main character. And the biggest theme of the 2nd game was the marionette character. And basically she was possessed by the girl Charlotte Emily in the back Ally. And in the game she was trying to help release the trapped souls in other animatronics. This was revealed in a secret mini game in the 2nd game. But in the game she died in front of everyone and also the Marionette kept possessing separate people in the movie.

And this is not her mechanic in the games or lore. Personally, I want a lore accurate movie and I feel like this movie doesn’t give the real fans what they deserve. However most little kids and the target audience wouldn’t make the movie any better so I guess I understand they gotta make money.
