I was granted an early screening for Wicked for Good on November 17th in AMC theaters. I was very excited as me and my family are big fans of the movie. After viewing the movie, I have many mixed opinions about this movie. The star actresses, Ariana Grande and Cythia Arivo have incredible voices and do our pink and green duo wonders, especially in the new movie.
Both movies (Wicked (released in 2024) and Wicked: For Good) stay very faithful to the musical and many, myself included, believe that the movies may even be better. Ethan Slayter did an absolutely wonderful job as the Tin Man in the new movie and captured his anger against Elphaba. No Good Dead gave me goose bumps and For Good had me and my family in tears. I’d very much recommend listening to the soundtrack. The only songs sung completely without breaks were For Good and No Good Deed. The rest were sung in snips separated by dialogue.
The writers and directors made some great creative choices when it came to the Oz four. The decision to keep Dorthy faceless was a great choice because it makes sure that the story remains focused on Elphaba and Glinda. They fast forward through The Wizard of Oz storyline to keep focus on the story of Elphaba and Galinda.
All this to say I do have a few grievances with it. The rushing through the Wizard of Oz story line made the film seem overall a little rushed. I felt as though we were fast forwarding through Elphaba and Feiro’s love story as they confess their love and then shortly, Feiro becomes straw. The songs were also stretched through.
All this to say I did really enjoy Wicked for Good and would 100 percent recommend going to watch it. It currently had mixed reviews but a 68% on rotten tomatoes which isn’t as much as Wicked. In my opinion, I’d say Wicked is slightly better than Wicked for Good.
