After an intense game for Superbowl 58’, the Chiefs were able to secure a 25-22 win over the San-Francisco 49ers. The game started off pretty slow with neither team scoring in the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter started off with the 49ers being the first team to put points on the board with a 55 yard field goal. The Chiefs then got the ball back and fumbled 5 plays into their drive. After trading off possessions, the 49ers scored the first touchdown of the game as well, making the score 10-0. The Chiefs then responded by driving down the field and kicking a field goal the next possession making the score at Halftime 10-3.
After a great Halftime performance by Usher, Kansas City came out with the ball to start the 3rd quarter, only for Patrick Mahomes to throw his first interception of the game. The 49ers had gotten the ball, but were stopped by the Kansas City defense. When Kansas City got the ball back after trading possessions, they were able to get into field goal range and make the score 10-6. The Chiefs then stopped the 49ers the following possession and were able to score a touchdown of their own, which gave them the lead 10-13. That lead was then given up when the 49ers scored a touchdown in response. After the latest touchdown (16-13) by the 49ers in the 4th, the two teams ended up trading field goals to end the 4th quarter with the score being tied at 19-19.
To start Over Time, the 49ers won the coin toss and decided to take the ball. With them driving 66 yards down the field, they were only able to get a field goal. With the Chiefs getting one last chance to score and win the game, Patrick Mahomes and his offense take the field with the clock winding down. In just 13 plays, Mahomes was able to drive his team down the field with the help of teammates, Travis Kelce, Isiah Pacheco, and Rashee Rice to score the game winning touchdown, making the final score 22-25, the Kansas City Chiefs winning their 3rd Superbowl in 4 years.
So where does this put Mahomes? Mahomes is now amongst 4 other quarterbacks who have won 3 superbowls. With Mahomes only being 28, and his career still having ways to go before he retires, he has cemented himself as a top 5 Quarterback to ever play the game, especially after winning back to back Superbowls, the most recent Quarterback to have accomplished that being Tom Brady. Now fans have begun to debate whether or not Patrick Mahomes will ever surpass Tom Brady.
As for the Chiefs, they have now highlighted themselves as a dynasty with much more to accomplish. Head Coach Andy Reid has shown how he can coach against the best of the best and has built this franchise from the ground up.
