Founder of Off-White, Virgil Abloh was pronounced dead on November 28, 2021. The designer died on November 24th due to cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare type of cancer he had been battling for two years.

As the founder of the popular brand “Off-White,” he is very well known in pop culture. As most teens at Long Reach know of the popular brand, some also own items from his brand and his death will have a major impact in the fashion industry. Off-white is mainly popularized by younger audiences and seen frequently in the hip hop genre. The brand is often seen worn with the streetwear aesthetic. The company’s success was highest from April 2016 to May 2021.

Abloh’s brand has 49 stores across the globe. He has designed shoes, clothing, album covers, bags, and even household furniture like the iconic “Ikea Receipt Rug.” He has been active since 2011 and has since become one of the most well-known black fashion designers in the world. Abloh has art exhibitions in big cities such as  Boston, Atlanta, and Chicago.

In March of 2018, Abloh made history by becoming the first black designer appointed for Louis Vuitton, a luxury fashion brand, as the men’s clothing artistic director. Along with this, Abloh worked with other big names such as Kanye West. He worked with West on many projects in the early 2000’s and in 2010 and became his creative director.

With how versatile Abloh’s work is, his brand can be seen being worn by students, influencers, actresses, rappers, singers, and those associated with the entertainment industry. His brand is described as “the gray area between black and white as the color off-white.” He has made significant changes to the fashion industry and will always be recognized as a great designer.
